Ways we help you pay.
Most students combine several sources of aid. Our financial aid counselors will help you understand each one.
Merit scholarships
Awarded for academic achievement, creativity, and leadership. Every admitted student is automatically considered; no separate application is required.
Need-based grants
Grants that don’t need to be repaid, calculated from your family’s financial circumstances. We meet the demonstrated need of every admitted student.
Work-study
On-campus jobs in libraries, labs, offices, and the Commons, with flexible hours that fit around your classes.
Loans
Federal student loans and, if needed, a small number of low-interest institutional loans. We encourage borrowing only what you need.
Four steps to your aid package.
Apply for admission
Aid decisions are made alongside admissions decisions. Submit your application first.
Complete the FAFSA or CADAA
File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or the California Dream Act Application if you qualify, by February 1.
Review your offer
Your financial aid package will arrive with your admission letter and outlines every grant, scholarship, and loan.
Accept and enroll
Accept the aid you wish to receive by May 1 and complete any remaining paperwork.

Common questions.
Do I have to apply separately for merit scholarships?
No. Every applicant is automatically considered for merit scholarships when they apply for admission.
What if my family’s situation changes?
Contact the Financial Aid office at (707) 555-0130. We review circumstances such as job loss or unexpected expenses and can adjust your award.
Is aid renewable?
Yes. Merit scholarships and need-based grants renew each year as long as you remain in good academic standing and your family’s financial circumstances remain similar.
Can transfer students receive aid?
Yes. Transfer students are eligible for need-based aid and for transfer merit scholarships.
How do payment plans work?
The Business Office offers interest-free monthly payment plans that spread your balance over ten months.
